The Poet that I was
By Alphonse Tan of ETN Multimedia
I remember back in high school or in some countries you would say, middle school. The hormones were so pumped up that I just had to let go of my thoughts and pen these down. I used to have a girlfriend whom I would write poems to each day for nearly two years. I remember writing once, on a clean sheet of yellow pad paper i wrote in between the lines literally, I formatted my poem in such a way that I wrote two lines of poetry in between the lines of the yellow pad. and came up with two columns and did the work the same way for three pages back and forth... I guess no girl could turn you down with three pages of poem especially written for her. As I grew older, I spent less and less time writing. My only regret is lending my work, which was a shoebox full of poems written on little pieces of paper, on scratch paper, on pad paper and on bond paper. Just as the saying goes, nothing lasts forever, I have no proof whatsoever of that part of my life nor do i have anything to pass on to the next generations except maybe this little Intel I wrote. My Lesson learned is that there are things that may seem ordinary when we have them, but they turn valuable once we loose them. This holds true for your personal works, hobbies, collections, friends, loved ones and anything that is of value to you. Hoping too that the younger set will not forget the value of valuing something be it big or small, written or unwritten, material or immaterial. Lest we all forget our own humanity. |
